Anwe Bridal – Hamburg
You can find our beautiful hand-beaded Bo & Luca gowns in Hamburg, Germany. We spoke to Anwe Bridal’s owners, Anna and Wenka about how they started, their favourite bridal trends and what they love most about Bo & Luca.
HOW DID YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE BRIDAL INDUSTRY?
While helping a friend to find her perfect wedding dress we realised how traditional the bridal industry still is. After a lot of research, we found a ton of cool designers who thinks outside the traditional bridal box and aren’t afraid to make a bold statement in the industry. We both have very different experiences with the fashion world because of our body shapes and we wanted to transform that into our own concept of style. We found out that even if there is a general change in the fashion industry, the wedding industry is still lagging. While social norms are still very important, diversity is not as present as it should be. We wanted to take up and use this development to offer an experience for women of all shapes, sizes, skin colours and ages who don’t identify with the mainstream aesthetic and decide what kind of bride they want to be. This was how Anwe Bridal was born!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BOUTIQUE?
Anwe Bridal is a store for the liberated woman living an unruly life and looking for the perfect dress to express herself. The focus is to make women who generally feel uncomfortable feel right at home. Brides will find the advice they can trust and a dress that reflects their free, confident and modern attitude to life, free from constraints, norms, gender roles, and body images.
We created a modern store where the bride feels right at home and get an unforgettable experience. Muted tones, warm lights and well-chosen details in combination with a clean line are helping the brides-to-be to focus on their experience to find the perfect dress.
LESS OR MORE?
Less with a special touch.
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST BRIDAL TREND OF THE SEASON?
Definitely sleeves in all shapes. Not because of the traditional reason for hiding the arms but to make a bold statement on the wedding day.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FUTURE GOALS?
Hard to say as we just started, but for next year we would love to add a consignment service to be more sustainable and open for more kinds of brides. One day we would love to do design cooperation for a size inclusivity line.
WHO WOULD BE YOUR DREAM BRIDE TO DRESS?
It’s hard to choose as there isn’t a particular Anwe Bride but to name some we would go for Chloë Sevigny, Jemima Kirke, Pernille Teisbaek and Indya Moore.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D LEAVE WITH BRIDES IN SEARCH OF THEIR PERFECT WEDDING GOWN?
The first tip: have a look in your wardrobe! Know which shapes and style lines fit you best. Lastly: it doesn’t matter what other people think of your dress! You have to feel comfortable and happy about it!
OF ALL THE BRANDS AND DESIGNERS, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE BO & LUCA?
Bo & Luca was one of the first brands we found while doing our research and we felt in love immediately. Bo & Luca combines the best of two worlds: modern silhouettes and traditional craftsmanship. The focus on hand-beaded details and slow luxury is very unique and quite different from other brands. The gowns express our view on modern brides as well as the focus on quality and fabrics.
