MAE BRIDE // REBECCA & BRIAN

Like many other couples during the pandemic, Rebecca and Brian had their wedding plans postponed, changed and cancelled numerous times, going from a sunny ceremony in Crete to a festival wedding at their home in Ireland. After the third lockdown in early 2021, the couple finally chose to move forward with a minimony at home with immediate family, to legally tie the knot. The ceremony was held at the Maritime Museum, a museum located directly behind Brian’s family home, with the Boho reception following in their front garden that overlooked the Dun Laoghaire harbour. The couple plan on holding a larger wedding party in 2022 to follow this intimate ceremony.

The two met through Rebecca’s big brother at a party and then fast-forwarding, on a tiny island off the coast of south Dublin, called “Dalkey Island”, Brian found himself weak at the knee. They’d just kayaked to watch the sunset for his 40th birthday, so the sky was painted with romance and their love was promised to each other forever!

MARRIAGE TO US MEANS

We’re a family now, an absolute team ’til the end.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The wonderful Ivana Patarcic, a beautiful person and incredible photographer. Ivana went above and beyond on the day to capture moments around our home village, from our front door to The Peoples Park a park we stroll to on a Sunday for the farmers market and where my Dad used to play as a child, to the most stunning photos up on the rocks overlooking Dalkey island where Brian had got down on one knee. While we had originally booked to get married in Crete we quickly learned that things really do have a way of working out the way theyre meant to.

Due to lockdown all bridal boutiques were closed, but Rebecca remarked that, “…the gorgeous Kerry of ‘Ivy and White’ in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, took all the stress away” for her purchasing a wedding dress online once she fell in love with Bo & Luca’s MAE gown on their website.

“I knew it would be the perfect carefree boho but elegant gown for our minimony. The excitement the day it arrived by courier, I couldn’t try it on quick enough, it was absolutely perfect and felt like a dream on.”

WEDDING DAY ACCESSORIES

My friend called over with a gold crescent moon hair clip the night before to try, which ended up being the perfect ‘something borrowed’. I wore off-white braided low heeled sandals, but spent most of the day barefoot.

WEDDING RINGS

Brian went with a slim brushed finish silver band, and my wedding band fell into place when talking to my mum about rings two months prior, “I just need to get a thin gold band”  I said to my mum, to which she produced my late great Grandmother’s ring, a thin gold band. To say I adore it is an understatement, my mum was so close to her Grandmother so I feel very honoured to wear it every day now.

HAIR & MAKEUP

My hair and makeup artist cancelled due to covid three days prior to our little day, but the beautiful free spirit that is Ms Judy Wong, was recommended to me and jumped in to save the day with her own cancellation, the universe truly aligned on this one. Judy’s approach to makeup is very light handed, creating fresh faced, beautiful skin with a little bronze on the eyelids. She created a soft beachy boho wave in my hair with a little bit pinned back with the crescent moon clip.

ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE

Remember that you’re marrying your best mate and try to enjoy every minute of it because it’s the fastest day of your life.

MOST TREASURED MOMENT OF MY WEDDING DAY

Hard to pick just one; getting ready together with Brian in our a little redbrick house, and walking hand in hand down the aisle together to get married, something I never imagined we would do but COVID wreaking havoc on our original plans created these opportunities to do things unconventionally and make the most special moments in doing so. Also my beloved Uncle Chris officiating the ceremony.

FAVOURS

Instax photos were keepsakes from the day

FLOWERS & BOUQUETS

A simple summer arrangement from my favourite local florist Emma Rose Floristry, I loved the pop of colour with the pink peonies

WEDDING CAKE

No cake for the minimony, but we did have a selection of our favourite desserts from our local bakery, chocolate nougatine cheesecake and mini lemon meringue pies

FOOD & DRINKS

The food was very casual with canapés and a BBQ in the garden, food provided by Butler’s Pantry

SPECIAL WEDDING SONG

We walked hand in hand down the aisle to the Beatles ‘In my Life’ , and exited the ceremony to the Beach Boys ‘Don’t worry baby’, the lyrics and music perfectly summarised feelings during such uncertain times in our little world during a pandemic.

CEREMONY & RECEPTION DÉCOR

We left the Maritime Museum exactly as it was. The reception in Brian’s family garden was decorated with the help of my beautiful friends (swim tribe). They were up at the crack of dawn in misty rain with me to setup and create a whimsical boho garden party, completely transforming Brian’s family garden. They created a backdrop and teepee for taking cute instax photos on the day as keepsakes. The garden dressing was a combination of handmade decorations, and umbrellas, rugs, blankets, lanterns and fairy lights all from our homes.

HONEYMOON

We minimoon’d in Sligo and Donegal on the wild Atlantic coast of Ireland, and we hope to get away for a honeymoon in 2022 after the big day. A trip around Italy would be absolutely perfect for us after being locked down in Ireland for two years.
