Primrose Bride – Brittany & Mighail
Brittany and Mighail’s wedding was postponed numerous times due to COVID and travel restrictions. With family members and half their bridal party not being able to travel from overseas, they decided to go a different route than they had originally planned. Their quick and intimate wedding was held at their friend’s farm in the Karoo, Northern Cape.
The vintage bohemian feel of the aesthetic of their DIY wedding was kept simple with warm details. Everything was hand-done by the bride herself and her bridesmaids.
The couple met in a coffee shop and Brittany says she knew he was the person she was meant to marry as soon as she saw him. One day, after arriving home from work, Mighail rushed her into the car and drove them to their favourite spot nearby her parent’s house. It was a small dam where they loved to fish and take walks to, and he’d planned a surprise picnic where he proposed to her.

COUPLE’S NAMES
Mighail & Brittany
WEDDING DATE
28 May 2021
GUEST TOTAL
8 (plus guests viewing through facetime due to COVID regulations).
MARRIAGE TO US MEANS
Getting to be with your best friend everyday, and making a beautiful commitment to one another, sharing our lives of triumph, struggles and success.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Talea Schlebusch from Karoo Kind Visueel. Our photography was very casual and candid, we wanted to keep a very vintage look and feel, and so the photos were not posed. We made use of film cameras and Polaroids for an extra old-fashioned look!
SPECIAL WEDDING SONGS
We had my brother, Josh, who resides in the UK, and wasn’t able to come, produce and sing a cover of our favourite romantic song, ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love with you’ by Elvis Presley. I walked in to the song, and it was so special to have my brother a part of the wedding in some way.
MOST TREASURED MOMENT OF MY WEDDING DAY
Walking down to the altar, having my brother’s song playing, and seeing Mighail standing at the front, very teary-eyed.

Brittany had always wanted a unique, boho-style dress that could complement the vintage style of her engagement ring. When she came across Bo & Luca, she said,
“I was over the moon with the amazing choices and styles. Bo & Luca provided an array of gorgeous, quality dresses that were so unique and elegant, which is exactly what I was looking for!”
The bride wore our Temple by Bo & Luca PRIMROSE gown and further exclaimed that,
“Choosing the Primrose dress felt so natural, and the quality of the fabric made me feel so comfortable and proud to be wearing it.”
WEDDING DAY SCENT
Estee Lauder – Sensuous.
WEDDING DAY ACCESSORIES
As soon as I found my Primrose dress, I knew I wanted to bead myself a statement headpiece, and so my headband was handmade, and I paired it with fresh-water Pearl earrings.
BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES
Due to travel restrictions, only 2 of my 5 bridesmaids could be there, leaving us with not much of a bridal party, and so we bought the dresses from local boutiques. I never wanted my bridesmaids to wear the same dresses or colours, and so each of them wore colours that suited our décor and overall wedding look.
HAIR AND MAKEUP
I did my own makeup, playing on a soft natural smokey eye, and my one bridesmaid curled my hair into loose curls.
WEDDING RINGS
For my engagement ring, I wanted it to be the statement ring, comprised of a fresh water pearl – I was determined to have a vintage-style ring with a unique pearl setting. Mighail got my engagement ring made at Cape Diamond, and they honestly made my dream ring come true! For my wedding band, I knew I wanted a simple band and so we bought one from NWJ Jewelers in Cape Town. Mighail’s signet ring was hand-made and engraved by Pierre-Estienne, a local jeweler who creates handmade rings for men. The crest on Mighail’s ring was designed and illustrated by me, and then Pierre-Estienne engraved and curated the ring and brought it all to life!
ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE
Don’t worry too much about the small things, if you are ready to get married, and are able to, then do it! If these restricted circumstances in the world have taught me anything – it is that life is too short, and romance and love are too important!

FAVOURS
Because we had such an intimate wedding, we gifted each and every one of our guests individual favors and thank yous. I gifted my 2 bridesmaids engraved signet rings, just like one of my own, so we have matching rings now!
FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
The flowers and bouquets were hand-done by myself and my bridesmaids. We put together simple arrangements of dried Pompous leaves and dark, dried flowers.
WEDDING CAKE
Our wedding cake was a home-baked chocolate cake, covered in all mine and Mighail’s favourite toppings.
FOOD & DRINKS
We had a huge harvest table set out for our guests, full of all our favourite foods – cheese platters, cocktail meats, fruits and freshly baked bread by local Karoo Caterer MyliandCo. Due to the intimacy of our wedding, it was easy to focus on the abundance of food and drinks, we also had a selection of alcohol and mixed fruit cordials for the guests to choose from.
CEREMONY & RECEPTION DÉCOR
We kept the décor extremely simple throughout, making use of dried flowers and pompous leaves, as well as antique Persian carpets to help bring in warmth and darker colours.
SOURCES OF INSPIRATION
Most of the inspiration came from my love for antiques, as well as boho and vintage style things. Mighail and I have similar tastes in décor and style, and so choosing the wedding aesthetic was so easy.

HONEYMOON
We had a trip around Europe planned, however due to Covid restrictions, we changed it to a local honeymoon, spending majority of our honeymoon in Franschoek, Western Cape. We stayed at Babylonstoren, Boschendal and the Lavender Guest Farm, all of these accommodations were absolutely beautiful and special, allowing us quiet time together as we were treated so well and cared for.
