Surrounded by the surf on one side and A tranquil Bay on the other, Eleanor & Cameron exchanged vows in Palm Beach, ON the northern beaches region of Sydney. Its golden sands, clear waters and Eleanor’s childhood memories MADE IT THE PERFECT SETTING FOR THEM TO GET MARRIED IN.

Eleanor and Cameron

21 April 2018

The ceremony location was on Palm Beach near Sydney, which some people may know as the setting for the Australian TV show ‘Home and Away’. Our reception was at Palm Beach Surf Club. The Club was chosen because my grandpa (who passed away recently) had been one of the Club’s first members and growing up, my family spent a lot of time there. We recently had my grandmother’s 80th birthday there too.

Lara Hotz because she had also photographed my sister’s wedding and had done a beautiful job. I loved the way she captured every moment and there were so many beautiful candid moments.

BO & LUCA!!! I first spotted the  ISRA gown on Pinterest when I first started looking for a gown. I managed to track it down at the only Sydney stockist, Hope X Page. It was the first dress I tried on and it was beautiful! I chose it because I wanted my gown to be intricate and special but I felt lace didn’t suit me and I fell in love with the intricate beading on the ISRA gown. I felt so confident in the style – completely elegant but not at all uncomfortable or like I was spilling out of it. The style reminds me of a sari – it’s so flattering and a shape that I love. The veil that I wore was Cam’s Nanna’s, which she hand sewed and wore at her own wedding in 1946.

The bridesmaids live in all corners of the globe – Vanuatu, Singapore, London and Sydney – and so they each chose their own white dress so that they could try it on and feel comfortable. The dresses were from Magali Pascall, Rebecca Vallance, Whistles and Keepsake.

Cam and I had been together for 7 years (2.5 of which were long distance). We had bought our cozy little apartment in Sydney. One day I came home from work and Cam had filled our apartment with candles and made me a beautiful dinner. We just ate dinner in our lounge room and stayed up talking all night. Sharing the news with our family and friends was the loveliest feeling. It is the best time of your life – so full of joy and love!

It was just an Australian beach wedding.

My friend, Kate McCoy, is a jewellery designer. Cam worked with Kate to design my engagement ring – it is an oval diamond with a halo. We both have simple wedding bands, mine is white gold and Cam’s is vintage gold.

Haha – They were Cam’s choice! Beer coolers that had a message with a play on our last names ‘I Wheely had too Mennie at Cam and Eli’s wedding’.

I asked Lisa Madigan to use lots of native Australian flowers. I encouraged her to use flannel flowers (my favourite) and gumnuts and lots of leaves and drift wood.

We really weren’t fussed about the cake! I told Sarah Glover that we would cut whatever we could see on the dessert table. But lovely Sarah made us the most beautiful hummingbird cake. It was perfect.

We did an online registry with The Gift Isle.

We had a grazing table for starters. Our main was sit-down share plates and then for dessert we had a dessert table. I found our caterer on Instagram. All her food looked rustic and beautiful – It was whole foods over open fires and I was so stoked when she agreed to cater our wedding.

Our first dance was to Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. Our band Slide McBride was amazing! They played all day and night and they were unbelievably great. They jumped between the ukulele, trombone and base. The best man also wrote us a song that had everyone crying with laughter!

We went to Bhutan and Nepal. Bhutan has been top of our travel list for ages and this was the perfect special occasion to go. After Bhutan we did a 10 day hike in Nepal and being on our own amongst the mountains was incredible!

All of it! Too many to count. Seeing Cam tearing up at the end of the aisle just swelled my heart.

Enjoy the day! Don’t stress the small stuff. It will be the only time in your life that all your special people are under the one roof so remember to take it all in.
