Shannon’s Favourite Hangout Spots In Cape Town

With summer in full swing in South Africa, we are taking a look at our Creative Director, Shannon Pittman’s favorite things to do in sunny Cape Town. From food to wine, day to night, here are a few of her favorite things to do if you happen to be in the area.

Where to eat?

There are so many great places to eat and drink in Cape Town – this city has the best food culture. A place that I visit often and always enjoy is Jonkershuis Restaurant at Groot Constantia. You can sit outside under the large oak trees and look out over the view that stretches out over the Constantia valley. It is absolutely magical!

Where to drink?

There is a great little place at the top of Constantia Hill towards Hout Bay called La Parada. In summer this place is so vibe-y and you can sit under the umbrella and catch some sun.

Where to hang out during the day?

If you love hanging out at local cafes, and people-watching like I do, I would suggest Kloof Street in the heart of Cape Town. There are lots of little bars and cafes that server anything from breakfast to drinks and tapas. If you’re more of a nature-lover, I would suggest going for a hike up the beautiful Table Mountain. A favorite of mine is Lions Head if I wake early to watch the sunrise, or a walk up Chapman’s peak to watch the sunset. Alternatively, you are basically surrounded by some of the most amazing Winelands in the world so I would take full advantage of that!

Art, music & culture?

Cape Town has a huge creative hub of people. I love the Woodstock / Salt River area. A great place to see young, upcoming designers. The Silo District at the V&A Waterfront has some amazing activities and restaurants all in one spot and if art is what you are after I would suggest visiting the Zeits Mocaa Gallery.

Where to shop?

Cape Town is known as a creative hub so you will find local designers and artists a plenty in this city! I personally prefer the smaller boutique shops to the many malls. One of my favorite places to find vintage treasures is a small Kundalini Yoga studio in Park Street, Tamboerkloof. I also love homewares, so I would suggest visiting some of the local homeware stores on Kloof Street as well as the Milnerton Market.

Getting around?

You can get around via Uber easily so if you are not planning on hiring a car then this would be the best way to get around.

Favourite thing about Cape Town?

The ocean, the mountain, and the energy of the people in this city. Cape Town is such a wonderful city for creatives and adventure seekers alike. There is so much to see and do and the people are truly inspirational!
