STORY OF MY DRESS // KENT, UK
Only 50 minutes out of London Victoria, in a bustling little village in the English countryside, you’ll find our newest UK stockist, Story of My Dress. Brides have taken to visiting the boutique for their appointments and then treating themselves to lunch with their bridal party afterward, turning the entire event into an exciting outing for all.
Story of My Dress’ founder, Cara, is very much about bringing modern wedding designs to the UK, a firm believer in bridal with an edge. In our interview with her, we asked what drew her towards the bridal industry?
“Having been wedding dress shopping with my best friend locally and realising that our area did not offer modern, cool bridal with a really special experience. Something needed to change here and having worked in fashion production for both shoes and garments, it was a no-brainer to take that experience and move across to bridal.”
“We are so lucky to be a part of a bride’s journey, something we do not take for granted.”
Cara mentioned that they started the business eight years ago, with twenty vintage dresses that were redesigned and restored, “So Story of My Dress seemed to fit!”
She added that the name is still perfect for them as they are so invested in their brides and their time with them.
With a warm, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, the store is said to be like walking into a really well decorated home and Cara exclaimed, “I’m always being asked where our wall colours and accessories are from!”
We asked Cara what motivates her to go into work each day, take a look at what she said;
“It’s not really work, we have so much fun behind the scenes and then in our appointments. It’s truly our passion styling these ladies who visit us for their wedding day.”
Her favourite part of the store is the studio upstairs where they make the gown alterations and fittings. Cara says, “You can see where the magic happens!”
When we wanted to know what drew her to Bo & Luca, Cara said that she’s had her eye on us for years, and she felt that the craftsmanship, modern designs, and brides who wear them all aligned with Story of My Dress;
“I also love that we are the only stockists in England of Temple by Bo and Luca. We really want our brides to feel special and not the same as every other.”
From all the brides you’ve styled over the years, what’s one piece of advice you’d leave with brides looking for their wedding gown?
“Always be you. I think there is sometimes this perception of needing to wear a ‘wedding gown’ or look a certain way. We want each of our brides to choose a dress that suits them, that they love and is totally their style and also really comfortable.”
Cara mentioned that she wants her brides to leave feeling the best version of themselves.
WHO WOULD BE YOUR DREAM BRIDE TO DRESS?
We are so lucky and genuinely meet the loveliest ladies, they’re all dreamy. If I had a choice, personally I would love to dress Margot Robbie or Jodie Turner-Smith!
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF PRIOR TO STARTING YOUR OWN BRIDAL BUSINESS?
Do not compare yourself to other bridal shops, our story is individual and our dresses are different, that’s exactly what we want to be and exactly why our brides come here!
WHICH NEW PIECE/S OF OURS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON YOUR RAILS?
