Vicki and Skye celebrated their love with an intimate dinner party wedding in the picturesque Boekenhoutskloof vineyard in Franschhoek. It was a perfect summer evening - surrounded by loved ones, rolling mountains and heavenly food and wine. When it came to their special day, the couple stayed true to themselves, embracing personal touches and discarding those wedding formalities that didn’t resonate with them. Their dreamy celebration subtly recalled their romantic engagement in Portugal, with a glorious tower of Pastéis de Nata in lieu of a wedding cake.
Vicki and Skye's romance first blossomed while studying together at the University of Cape Town in 2012. Seven years later they planned an idyllic vacation in Lisbon, Portugal. On a still summer's eve on Skye's birthday, he surprised Vicki by proposing as they walked the streets in search of a wine bar.
"We spent the rest of the evening exploring the city, sipping on Ginja and closed the night off having dinner at the famous Ramiro."

FINDING YOUR DREAM GOWN
Vicki had been following Bo & Luca for a while and after her first visit, she knew she didn’t need to look any further. She immediately fell in love with more than one gown on the rail, but it was the Dallas Gown that ultimately stole her heart: “...there was one gown that ticked all the boxes – this was the Dallas Gown. The intricate beading and tea-dyed silk layers along with the classic, modern design is timeless perfection.” The bride completed her ethereal look with our Soft Tulle Veil and Rosalie Crown.
She wore Chloé Nomad perfume and understated gold hoop earrings. Her hair and makeup was done by her talented friend, Juliette Carroll.
BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES
Skye and I had a bridal party as opposed to bridesmaids and groomsmen. This was a group of our best friends. We wanted them to wear whatever they felt most comfortable in.
FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
Our wedding planner Nikki Du Plessis from Bride Sidekick is a specialist in floral design. I have always admired her floral work so I gave her free reign and loved what she did. To complement the eclectic aesthetic of our wedding each floral arrangement was unique. We had a mix of all the beautiful fresh flowers that were in season: grasses, greenery and amaranths.
SPECIAL WEDDING SONGS
I walked down the aisle to "Holocene" by Bon Iver. After signing our register, we exited the venue for photos to "Intro" by The XX. We arrived back to the reception to "Kiara" by Bonobo.
WEDDING CAKE
We had a tower of Pastéis de Nata as a memory of our engagement in Portugal.
FOOD & DRINKS
Annalize Catering did our catering. Food is a big part of our lives so it needed to be a big part of the wedding. We had the most amazing harvest table and canapes (including one of my favourites, braai broodjies), followed by family-style sharing platters as a main. Everyone that knows me, knows how much I love an Aperol Spritz so these were non-negotiable. The wines served were Boekenhoutskloof and Buitenverwachting wines, both made by two very important men in my life.
WEDDING AESTHETIC
The natural beauty that surrounded us was the perfect backdrop. We went for natural light, with a romantic, yet eclectic feel.
WEDDING LOCATION
Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek. I always dreamed of getting married here. I lived on the farm for many years – it holds a lot of sentimental value to me.
HONEYMOON
We stayed at Babylonstoren in Franschhoek and Birkenhead House in Hermanus to enjoy both a farm and coastal getaway.
ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE
It’s easy for planning a wedding to become overwhelming and to get caught up in making decisions that aren’t true to you as a couple. Make sure you stay true to you as a couple and the process becomes stress-free and the day will be perfect.
